Jose Mourinho admits that he feared Manchester United fans would boo his tactics and substitutions against Burnley.
United fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Burnley on Boxing Day.
The Portuguese was named our early loser, but averted complete disaster with substitute Jesse Lingard scoring twice late on.
Lingard came on at half-time to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with Mourinho’s only other change also coming at the break when Henrikh Mkhitaryan came on for Marcos Rojo.
Mourinho admits that he thought such changes would suffer a negative fan reaction.
“At 2-0, it makes things more difficult at half-time,” he said.
“I need my players to believe in them[selves] and I need them to believe in me; to accept the risk and not be afraid to lose three or four. To not be afraid of what was possible.
“What didn’t happen but what could happen, is that there is a negative reaction from the supporters.”
