Jose Mourinho has praised Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but admits that he would have hoped to help him “faster”.
Mkhitaryan has started the season in wonderful form, registering four assists in two Premier League games.
The winger is Manchester United’s quietly effective star, with the spotlight shining on his more prominent teammates.
He struggled to establish himself in his debut season last campaign however, with Mourinho often leaving him on the bench.
The Portuguese has expressed his delight at his development since, and says that the pair “understand” each other better.
“I think Henrikh understands me, and to be honest, I understand him. In the beginning of last season if he understands me better, he would have started better,” he said.
“But at the same time, if I understood him better, I would probably have helped him in a faster way than I did.
“But we spent our time together, working together, learning each other. The second part of last season was good for him and I believe with his talent that this season is going to be even better.”
