Mourinho rules Carrick and Mkhitaryan out of cup final
Jose Mourinho says that Michael Carrick and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will not be fit for Sunday’s EFL Cup final.
Both players started in Manchester United’s 1-0 victory in St Etienne, despite United already holding a 3-0 lead from the first leg.
However, Mkhitaryan was substituted after just 25 minutes with a hamstring injury, while Carrick’s problem was revealed after the match.
Speaking after the game, Mourinho said neither were likely to recover in time to face Southampton:
Mourinho doesn't sound confident Mkhitaryan or Carrick will be fit for EFL Cup final. "Hamstring and calf, I think three days is no time."

Which all begs the question why those key players were even picked at all. If only someone had written a piece on the match asking just that…
