Jose Mourinho will name Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a vice-captain to Wayne Rooney at Manchester United.
The Sun claim that Ibrahimovic’s ‘presence’ has impressed Mourinho, with the Swede ‘commanding awe’ from United’s young squad.
Michael Carrick is the current deputy to Rooney, but if neither of the Englishmen are on the pitch and Ibrahimovic is, the summer signing will be handed the armband.
The 34-year-old was captain of Sweden for the majority of his international career, and looks set to assume a more prominent role at Old Trafford.
An ‘insider’ told The Sun: “Some of the other lads, especially the young ones, are in awe of Zlatan.
“He brings a presence to the place and people look up to him after everything that he has achieved through his career.
“He has experience at the highest level and is seen as an obvious captain when the other lads aren’t on the pitch.”
