Mourinho won’t rule out further departures at United

Jose Mourinho has refused to rule out the possibility of further outgoings at Manchester United and says it is unlikely they will sign anyone as he views the January market for emergencies only.

Morgan Schneiderlin has already joined Everton in the January transfer window, while Memphis Depay followed him out the door on Friday as he looked to complete a move to Lyon.

“If there are other unhappy players who want to go, I won’t stand in their way,” Mourinho said at a press conference.

Despite that, he isn’t keen on adding to his squad this month as he sees it as a window “to solve problems”.

“I think for some positions we are comfortable in numbers even believing that we go further in the cups,” Mourinho added.

“We have cup matches and Europa League matches on Thursdays, I don’t see us getting a little bonus of a Monday match.

“In some positions we are going to have problems as we don’t have great numbers in some areas.

“The best time is the summer market, I always consider the January market to be an emergency one to solve problems.

“I was not even thinking of selling Morgan and Memphis, it was only because the right offer arrived.

“It wouldn’t have been human to prevent Morgan and Memphis leaving.”
