Shkodran Mustafi appears to be edging closer to leaving Valencia, as Arsenal remain interested in the defender.

The Gunners have had a £15m offer rejected for the German international already this summer, and are now considering other options.

Arsenal are still in the race to sign the 26-year-old however, and it appears as though Mustafi is bound to leave La Liga.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper Marca, Roberto Soriano expressed his disappointment that his friend would be leaving the division.

Soriano has joined Villarreal from Sampdoria, Mustafi’s former club, and the midfielder had hoped to rekindle their friendship in Spain.

“I was hoping Mustafi would help me adapt to life in Spain,” Soriano said. “And now he goes.”

Arsenal remain reluctant to meet Mustafi’s £30m valuation by Valencia, but he remains their primary target in central defence.
