Prepare for the tenuous Neymar to Manchester City stories: The Barcelona forward has admitted he “would love” to play under Pep Guardiola.
Although two key figures in the recent history of Barcelona, Neymar and Guardiola’s times in Spain never coincided.
Barcelona signed Neymar in summer 2013, while Guardiola, who won 14 trophies during four years as manager at Camp Nou, left his post at the club at the end of the 2011/12 season.
Guardiola will leave current club Bayern Munich at the end of this campaign, and while his destination is as yet officially undecided, the strongest likelihood is that he will take over Manchester City.
And media outlets everywhere are already writing their ‘Guardiola lines up first City signing/Barca star hints at City move’ stories after Neymar revealed his admiration for the renowned coach.
When asked which manager he would most like to play under in football, Neymar told Red Bull: “Yes, there is one [coach]: Guardiola is a guy who I really admire and who I would love to work with.
“It is tough to say if I want to play in other countries. Nobody knows tomorrow, but I am very happy where I am right now at Barcelona.
“I have the will to go back to Brazil some day and I also would like to play in USA – those two countries are two where I want to play later on in my career.
“[USA] is a place where the game is growing and attracting the interest of lots of players, who are becoming more and more popular there.
“So this makes me curious, it makes me interested to see it closely.”
