Wayne Rooney will join Everton on a free transfer by the end of this week, according to an exclusive report.
Late on Tuesday evening, Neil Custis tweeted that Rooney would not be going on Manchester United’s preseason tour to America.
Instead, he will join Everton on a free transfer, but Everton will continue to pay his £250,000-a-week wages.
That seems unthinkable. Why on earth would Everton pay Rooney that sort of money when he is so obviously in sharp decline?
Custis also writes that Olivier Giroud will follow Rooney to Everton, which has been reported elsewhere. That surely pave the way for Romelu Lukaku to join Chelsea, and leaves Everton with a heck of a lot of options in the final third.
‘Forward Rooney is likely to play in a No 10 role, with Giroud, 30, set to partner him up front in place of Romelu Lukaku, who is poised to move to Chelsea for £90m,’ Custis writes. Poor Sandro Ramirez wants a word with Ronald Koeman if that is the case.
EXCL: Rooney IS going to Everton.
OFF Utd US tour.
GONE by end of the week.
