Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez praised his team’s work-rate despite suffering a 1-0 defeat against Burnley at Turf Moor.
Jeff Hendrick’s 74th minute strike was enough to give Sean Dyche and his side a crucial home win and move them up to seventh.
The defeat for the Geordies see them remain in ninth place leaving them on 14 points from the opening 10 Premier League games.
Although Newcastle fell to defeat, Benitez felt his side were in charge of proceedings on Monday night.
Speaking after the game, he said: “It was a game we were controlling and we knew that scoring one goal would win it. We made a mistake and we paid for it.
“It was two teams who know what to do and little details could make the difference. We had nine attempts in the second half, we thought we could win the game. We were not precise on the ball and we have to improve.
“We know our strengths and our weaknesses. We have to improve on everything but I am happy with our work rate.”
Newcastle face Bournemouth before the international break, and will no doubt target three points to add to their tally this season.
