Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm says that Robert Lewandowski deserves censure for only scoring five goals in nine minutes on Tuesday night.
The Polish striker described his feat – achieved against VfL Wolfsburg – as “insane”, but Lahm was less than impressed.
“He could have scored seven today,” said the German. “We have to be critical of that and remind him of the chances he missed. It’s unacceptable!”
We suspect Lahm was joking because it really was phenomenal from Lewandowski, who said: “I’m really happy, that was insane!
“I just wanted to play and didn’t think about anything. I knew that I’d be able to score two goals in the second half but to get five is absolutely unbelievable. Out on the pitch you’re just so focused.
“Obviously I always want to play, to score goals and win, but I wasn’t annoyed about being a substitute. It’s hard to compare to the four I scored against Real Madrid because that was in a Champions League semi-final after all. But to get five in the Bundesliga is crazy.
“It’s a great night for me. It’s not easy to score five times.”
