Origi adamant that Lukaku has not streaked away

Divock Origi has reacted indignantly to suggestions that the gap between him and fellow Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku has increased.

Lukaku is the Premier League’s top scorer with 21 goals while Origi has scored just four times in the top flight, having started just seven games this season.

The pair are on Belgium international duty together and Origi was asked by Het Nieuwsblad if he thought the gap between the pair had widened.

“I do not feel this,” insisted Origi. “I know what I can do. I play at a top club in Liverpool.

“Romelu is indeed doing well, because he works very hard and is focused on the right things. I want the same progression as Romelu and I’m working for it.

“I believe in myself and I will get through. But sitting on the bench, there are times that you get down.

“All I can do is work hard. That is still the goal with Liverpool. That’s my focus.”
