Owen teases Scholes over claim Liverpool can win PL

Paul Scholes admits Liverpool are capable of winning the Premier League – but he hopes they don’t.

The Reds have started the season in impressive form, winning four of their opening six matches.

They currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, and have scored 16 goals – only leaders Manchester City (18) have more.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have also already faced Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester and Tottenham so far this season, and are second favourites with most bookmakers to win their first top-flight title since 1990.

Speaking to BT Sport after Manchester United’s Europa League win over Zorya Luhansk, Scholes admitted that he can envisage this side winning the title.

“They do to me,” he replied when asked whether Liverpool look like they could win the Premier League.

“I was a little bit worried about them defensively but you have to say the attacking quality they’re showing at the minute they look like they’re going to score goals against anybody.”

Fellow pundit and former Liverpool striker Michael Owen then said: “I’ll leave Scholesy to continue drooling over Liverpool.”

“I hope they don’t,” Scholes added. But the damage had been done.
