Mesut Ozil is “angry” at Arsenal, according to former winger and current coach Robert Pires.
Ozil has come in for criticism this season – and ever since he moved to the Premier League in summer 2013 – for his performances.
The German has not started in a victory for the club since September 9, when he played the full 90 minutes against Bournemouth.
He has struggled with a knee injury this season and saw his summer disrupted with a knock to his ankle, but many feel the Gunners would be better off without a player whose contract expires in 12 months.
Pires has issued a defence of the 29-year-old, stating that Ozil is simply “angry” that Arsenal haven’t spent enough.
“Ozil is a warrior who wants to win something,” he told SportBild.
“To me, he seems so angry about the fact that Arsenal hasn’t put together the team with which he can make a difference. Arsenal has spent money only for Alexandre Lacazette, £46.4m. That is not enough to be at the top.”
