Mesut Ozil’s representatives have reportedly told Barcelona that the German wants £330,000 a week in wages if he joins in January.
There are suggestions that Arsenal have agreed to sell Ozil for £17.7m rather than lose him for nothing to Manchester United next summer.
Now Spanish newspaper AS have ‘revealed’ Ozil’s wage demands, which Barcelona can only meet if they shed Arda Turan from their squad.
It is also said that Ozil wants a substantial signing-on fee.
Former Gunner Martin Keown, who has been vocal about Ozil’s perceived lack of effort, has told the Mail: “I don’t think he would be a bad signing (for Barcelona). Everyone knows his calibre.
“Look at who he would be assisting – Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez… they are not going to turn him down because they know his vision.
“But the next step for him was to become a Messi or a Ronaldo type player – more ruthless. Going to a situation like that at Barcelona admits he is a provider rather than someone who can be a No 1.”
Some might say that being a provider for Messi and Suarez for £330,000 a week is not the worst of options.
