Crystal Palace defender Joel Ward suffered an injury to his knee in training and will be out for up to a month, the club has announced.

The fullback has had a fantastic start to the season, scoring goals against both Arsenal and Chelsea, and will leave a big hole at the back for Palace.

“Unfortunately we’ve lost Joel Ward this week. After his great performance against Chelsea he’s got injured in training and will definitely be out for three to four weeks, so that’s a blow to us,” confirmed Alan Pardew.

The Eagles’ manager had more bad news as Marouane Chamakh’s injury woes continue. The Moroccan striker is yet to make an appearance for Palace this season and faces at least the next three weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring strain.

However, Yohan Cabaye will be fit for Saturday’s clash against Manchester City at Selhurst Park, despite being forced off in France’s friendly against Portugal last week with an injury.

“Yohan came off as a precaution, he’s had problems with his groin and he felt a little bit in the scar tissue,” added Pardew.

“He did the sensible thing in coming off and he has trained today, and he was magnificent.”
