Danny Rose and Mauricio Pochettino were once so close that he was nicknamed “the gaffer’s son” by his teamates, but the pair’s relationship has deteriorated since his interview to The Sun.
Various reports claim on Tuesday that Rose’s representatives will meet with Tottenham on Wednesday and they will reiterate the defender’s interest in leaving for a club that pays more money and wins more trophies.
While ESPN claim that Daniel Levy ‘is expected to reiterate that Rose is not for sale’, The Independent believe that a bid of over £50m could tempt Tottenham to sell.
The telling paragraph in ESPN’s report is as follows:
‘The England international, who was fined two weeks wages’ for the outburst, was once so close to Pochettino that he was jokingly referred to as the “gaffer’s son” by his teammates but their relationship, which was already cooling, has deteriorated since Rose broke ranks and criticised the club’s transfer policy and wage structure.’
They claim that the pair have not had a conversation since that interview, for which Rose has apologised (or rather he has apologised for the timing of the interview).
Rose may have to show even more contrition as Pochettino is famously reluctant to pick players who have crossed him.
