Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham’s ‘fantastic’ win over Leicester proves that he has a ‘strong squad’ at his disposal.
Goals from Son Heung-min and Nacer Chadli handed Spurs a 2-0 win at the King Power stadium, setting up a tie with Colchester United in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
With Spurs just five points off leaders Arsenal in the Premier League, the Argentine boss made said he was glad to see his squad ‘motivated’ after making eight changes to his side.
“My message is we are Tottenham; we have a strong squad in every game and every selection. It is important to be motivated,” he told BBC Sport.
“We are in a very difficult period and we need all the players to be motivated, working hard and always with the expectation that they can play consistently.
“I am very happy, it is all about the team and team work and today we showed that we have a strong squad.”
Son’s excellent strike opened the scoring against Claudio Ranieri’s side, and Pochettino said the South Korean’s goal was ‘special’.
“The performance was fantastic, it was great. I think that we dominated the game from the beginning until the end.
“This victory I think we deserved, it is a fair result and I am very pleased with the performance.
“[It was a] special goal for [Son], I am happy for him and Nacer Chadli too because it is always important when our offensive players have the possibility to score.”
