Mauricio Pochettino, our early winner, has discussed the pressing need for Tottenham to make signings before the end of the transfer window.
Spurs are still the only Premier League club yet to make a single signing so far this summer, despite having four competitions to contend with this season.
They started the campaign with a difficult but deserved 2-0 win over Newcastle on Sunday, with Jonjo Shelvey’s sending-off for the Magpies proving crucial.
When asked whether Tottenham benefitted from having not made any new signings before the game, therefore having an established first team with ‘a greater understanding’, the manager replied: “Ha ha, now it’s an advantage not signing players?!
“The balance is most important because we need new players to bring some energy to the team to challenge our best players, that’s always important.
“But we are strong, strong enough to compete in the same way as last season.
“But, for me, we need to sign some players before the end of the transfer window.
“It’s important to improve the squad, create competition between us.
“We have ten months ahead, four competitions, we will need a lot of energy, more competition, more quality and to help the team and keep the level that we want.
