Mauricio Pochettino says that this could be Erik Lamela’s big moment, admitting that the Tottenham midfielder faces a key season in his career.
Lamela cost Spurs £25.7m in summer 2014, but has flattered to deceived throughout his time in England.
The Argentina international’s father publicly touted his son for a move back to Italy towards the end of the transfer window, but Spurs did not accept any offers for the winger.
Now Pochettino has emphasised how important this season is for Lamela if he is to be a success at White Hart Lane.
“I think this is a key season for him,” Pochettino said. “After two seasons at Tottenham, now is the moment for him.”
“We believe we can develop his game and I think we need to be patient with him.”
Lamela’s latest chance to impress will come on Thursday, when Spurs host Azerbaijani champions Qarabag.
