Mauricio Pochettino has refused to condemn Adam Lallana for his controversial red card for Liverpool’s Under 23s.
Lallana received a straight red card for violent conduct during a game with Tottenham’s Under 23s earlier this week.
The Liverpool midfielder, returning to full fitness after a thigh injury, reacted badly to a challenge from youngster George Marsh.
Neil Critchley, manager of Liverpool’s Under 23s, admitted he had “never seen Adam react like that”.
Pochettino was quizzed about the incident on Tuesday, and attempted to diffuse the situation.
“I hear, but I didn’t see the reaction,” he said. “It’s football, sometimes this happens.
“I can not say anything because Adam is a very special person for me, but I am sure he is going to send a message to us about what happened and then maybe we have a better idea about the situation.”
