Mauricio Pochettino has offered a response after Roy Keane branded Tottenham “embarrassing”.

Keane took aim at both Tottenham and Liverpool in midweek, describing their combined return of one trophy in the past ten years as “embarrassing”.

“The clubs you’re talking about, Liverpool and Spurs, should be able to compete in the Champions League and certainly qualify, and win an FA Cup or a League Cup,” Keane said.

But Pochettino was eager not to get involved in a spat with the former Manchester United midfielder, and instead looked to defuse the situation.

“He explained the reality,” Pochettino said.

“The adjectives that he put into this comment, I am going to say nothing, because it is his opinion.

“I loved watching Roy play because he was passionate and a fantastic player.

“I have nothing to say about his opinion. I respect his opinion. I love how he played with passion and energy.”
