Pochettino talks Tottenham transfers; lauds Kane

Mauricio Pochettino has lauded Tottenham forward Harry Kane as “one of the best strikers in the world”.

Spurs have been linked with several strikers, including West Brom’s Saido Berahino, with Kane the only senior centre-forward at the club following the summer departures of Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor.

However, Pochettino dropped a strong hint on Wednesday that he did not want to risk upsetting the dressing-room spirit by signing Berahino, a player that has been accused of having an attitude problem.

Pochettino then saw Son Heung-Min and Nacer Chadli score to earn Spurs a 2-0 win at Leicester City in their FA Cup third-round replay, reaffirming the Spurs manager’s belief that there is no great need to add to his forward ranks.

“We have one of the best strikers in the world [Kane],” Pochettino said. “If we get another offensive player, we need to bring the right one, who will fight for us.

“Because if you take the wrong decision, maybe you break the balance in the squad and changing room.

“We are proud of the changing room that we have built and their performances and how they believe in how they play.

“Games like this show me that we are going the right way and have taken the right decisions in the past.

“I can understand that when you don’t score people can be worried, but we have enough quality.

“This was a good opportunity for Nacer and Son to show that they can score so we are very pleased.

“We can improve, yes, and if we find the right player, then OK, but if not, I am very happy with the squad that we have.”
