Paul Pogba has described Manchester United as his “first family”, further fuelling talks of a transfer.

Pogba left United as a teenager in 2012 after struggling for first-team opportunities under Sir Alex Ferguson, and has been linked with a return to Old Trafford ever since.

The midfielder has established himself as one of the world’s leading talents after leaving United to join Juventus, where he has won four successive Serie A titles.

United are thought to be leading the race for his signature after Real Madrid reportedly cooled their interest in the 23-year-old on Thursday.

The Frenchman made an appearance at the ESPYS awards on Wednesday evening, and did little to allay claims that he could join Jose Mourinho at United.

During an interview, the midfielder was handed a Manchester United shirt, to which he responded: “That’s my first family.”

When asked what his reaction would be were he to receive a phone call from Mourinho asking him to join at that moment, he replied: “I don’t know. We’ll see. For now I’m at Juventus and I’m happy. I don’t know where I want to go.”

Pogba was then presented replica shirts of Juventus and Real Madrid. “It is my team. My family. It’s where I’m playing and where I’m at ease,” said Pogba of the Italian side.

Of Real, he added: “They’re a big club. They won the Champions League this year.”
