Former France international Emmanuel Petit thinks Paul Pogba would be a “waste of money” if he moved to Manchester United.
It is reported that the Juventus midfielder could be the subject of a world record £100million bid from the Red Devils, while he has also been linked with a move to Chelsea.
United, who have already signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly this summer, would become the first club to pay a nine-figure fee for a player if the rumors are true.
However, World Cup winner Petit thinks the transfer would come too soon for the 23-year-old – although he admits he has the potential to be a future star.
“They say £100m… it is a waste of money for me,” Petit told Yahoo Sport.
“Pogba has a great future, but this move is too early for him.
“I don’t like the situation around him all the time. We are making him out to be a big star, but he is not a big star to me.
“He hasn’t reached the level of the Champions League yet or the level with the national team. I am pretty sure he can do it, but this is too early for him.”
The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder added: “People talk about him all the time in the press, but I haven’t seen it yet. For the moment, I am not really convinced.
“If Real Madrid wanted this player, they would put the money on the table, but they don’t want to fight with Man United for Pogba. There is a reason for that.”
