Paul Pogba is reportedly close to a £100m move to Manchester United but BBC Sport has been told – presumably by the Reds – that a transfer is “not even out of the starting blocks”.
There is no doubt that United are interested in the French international, who has reportedly told friends that he is open to a United move, but the suspicion persists that Pogba and his agents are simply trying to smoke out Real Madrid.
‘It is thought United have not had any discussions with Juventus,’ say the BBC, which is backed up by Guillem Balague writing in Spanish newspaper AS.
Although he writes that United have agreed to pay an exorbitant £102m for the French international, they have yet to approach the Italian champions.
Real Madrid will struggle to match the financial package of £11.5m a year that Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has reportedly agreed with Manchester United, while the £21m commission due to the agent himself could be a sticking point for the Spanish club.
