Pundits rule out Salah winning Golden Boot

Sky Sports asked their four Soccer Saturday pundits who would win the Golden Boot this season and none opted for Liverpool winger Mo Salah.

The Egyptian has 22 Premier League goals this season – one more than Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero and one behind Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

Phil Thompson plumped for Kane and said: “Salah will give them a good run but he tends to score single goals whereas Kane gets a lot of hat-tricks.”

Salah has actually scored ten braces for Liverpool in the Premier League.

Paul Merson opted for Aguero, saying: “I think Salah is in contention but it’s a big ask for a winger to do it. He’s not an out-and-out centre-forward so it would be a phenomenal feat for him.”

Charlie Nicholas went for Kane and dismissed the Liverpool man because of missed chances, saying: “Salah could be clear of the other two with the chances he’s missed, but I think if you were going to have a bet on it then you couldn’t look beyond Kane.”

Matthew Le Tissier also opted against Salah in favour of Kane , saying: “Salah is on such a run that you cannot rule him out, but as a winger you wouldn’t expect him to be in as many goalscoring positions.”
