Ramos speaks about failed Man Utd move; hints at Jose’s flaw

Sergio Ramos has suggested that Jose Mourinho never truly grasped the nuances of Real Madrid’s dressing room during his time at the Bernabeu.

The current Manchester United boss left Real in 2013 after three years in charge, having won the La Liga title once and a Copa Del Rey, but he pointed out on Monday that he believes his real achievement was lifting the Spanish giants out of the doldrums.

However, ahead of the UEFA Super Cup final between Real and United in Skopje on Tuesday night, Ramos believes that his current boss, Zinedine Zidane, is a better fit for the club – who have won three Champions League titles since Mourinho left.

“My view is that when a team has a new coach it changes a great deal,” Ramos said. “How to manage the dressing room… Zidane is good at understanding our dressing room. Mourinho had a lot of experience.

“They are both great coaches and we’re grateful to live this historical moment with Zidane.”

Ramos also spoke about his near move to United back in 2015, adding: “There was an opportunity in the past. It resolved itself in a different way.

“I’m grateful to United for the interest. It’s a great club and I wish them all the best.”
