Rashford: Criticism of Rooney has been ‘unfair’

Marcus Rashford has unsurprisingly claimed that criticism of Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney from fans and the media has been ‘unfair’.

Rooney has been in rotten form – though he did claim an ‘assist’ against Zorya on Thursday night – and has scored just once this season, on the opening day against Bournemouth.

He was dropped for last Saturday’s impressive victory over Leicester City, finally coming off the bench to replace Marcus Rashford, who scored his fourth goal of the season in that match.

The 18-year-old striker told The Sun: “Criticism about Wayne is unfair. Definitely. He has won everything for this club.

“He is about to beat the club record for goals, he’s got the England appearance record and goals record, he’s got a lot of achievements and a lot of things to be proud of.

“So I just think – give him time and all this will go away.”
