Real doubt over Ronaldo ahead of Man City clash

Cristiano Ronaldo has suffered a thigh muscle injury, but Real Madrid have given no indication if he will be fit for their Champions League clash with Manchester City.

The 31-year-old came off the pitch moments before the final whistle during Madrid’s 3-0 Primera Division victory over Villarreal on Wednesday night after falling awkwardly.

Madrid face a trip to Rayo Vallecano on Saturday before Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first-leg clash at the Etihad Stadium.

Previously, Ronaldo had played every minute of every league game this season for Los Blancos, but there were fears he could miss some of the title run-in.

Ronaldo posted on Instagram that everything was “All good” on Thursday, but a statement from Madrid read: “Following tests carried out today on Cristiano Ronaldo in the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, he has been diagnosed with a muscle strain in his right thigh. His recovery will continue to be assessed.”

The former Manchester United player has scored 47 goals in 44 games for his club this season.
