Redknapp names his top 20 Premier League goals

Jamie Redknapp has named his list of the 20 best Premier League goals ever, with no room for Olivier Giroud, Steven Gerrard or Frank Lampard.

Redknapp caused controversy when he claimed that Giroud’s scorpion-kick goal against Crystal Palace was not one of the finest goals in the modern history of England’s top flight.

In his column for the Daily Mail, Redknapp has elaborated on his stance, naming the 20 greatest Premier League goals ever.

‘Not everyone will agree with my choices and there are plenty of strikes I would have loved to have included,’ he wrote.

‘I can’t even find room for two of the Premier League’s greatest players — Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard — but they scored enough goals that I’m sure they won’t mind!’

Strikes from Alan Shearer, Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale and Wayne Rooney are included – with Thierry Henry appearing twice – but it is former teammate Paolo Di Canio who takes the crown for his iconic volley against Wimbledon in 2000.

‘His flying volley is the purest strike you will ever see. In terms of technical difficulty it’s 10 out of 10,’ he said of the Italian’s strike for West Ham against Wimbledon.

According to Redknapp, Manchester United have scored five of the greatest Premier League goals ever, with Arsenal scoring four, and West Ham and Tottenham two each.
