Harry Redknapp has revealed his predictions for the eventual top six this Premier League season. Look away, Arsenal and Liverpool fans.
Writing in his Daily Telegraph column, football’s white noise outlined his belief that City would beat Arsenal in a ‘two-horse race’ at the top, with Manchester United finding form to claim third spot ahead of Tottenham.
The former Spurs boss reckons Chelsea will perform a miraculous recovery to finish fifth, with Leicester City finishing sixth ahead of Liverpool.
‘I think we saw this weekend why it is a two-horse race for the title,’ Redknapp wrote.
‘Manchester City came from behind, late on, against a good Watford side and Arsenal managed to grind out a win when they were not playing well against Newcastle. That is not something Arsenal have been able to do in the past and it shows their progress this season.
‘However, if I had to put my money on it, I’m going to tip Manchester City to just pip them to it. They have the better players and they have players who have won league titles before. That can be crucial when the pressure is on. I think that just gives them the edge, but it is going to be extremely close.
‘People might be surprised, but I also think Manchester United will finish the season strongly. They’ve had a really tough period and the manager has been under a lot of pressure, but he is vastly experienced, has seen it all before and they still have some excellent players.
‘I also suspect United will sign one or two this more, just to make sure they have the squad to make sure of Champions League football next season. That was probably the minimum requirement for Louis van Gaal and I think he will do it. They are another team who have benefited from Chelsea’s meltdown.
‘As for fourth place, Tottenham look the most likely to me. I watched them play Everton on Sunday and they were brilliant in the first half. They have got a young team and they are getting better and better.
‘Chelsea are getting back to normal now and that should worry the rest of the Premier League. They are only seven points behind Liverpool, who I think have a lot of work to do in the summer and I think Jurgen Klopp knows that. I’ve said it a few times now, but their recruitment has been poor and they will be very disappointed to miss out on the top six, but I suspect they will.
‘Leicester have had the most successful season of the lot up to this point when you think they were tipped to go down in August, but they will probably start to fall away and I’ve put them down to finish sixth.’
Redknapp also tipped Swansea, Sunderland and Aston Villa for relegation.
