Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler admits he would have “loved” to have played in an Arsene Wenger team and claims the Arsenal boss attempted to sign him twice.

Fowler, commonly referred to as ‘God’ by some Liverpool fans, scored 183 goals in 369 appearances over two spells with the Merseysiders.

While talking about the future of the current Gunners boss, the 41-year-old dropped in that the Frenchman had tried to sign him while he was playing for the Reds.

“I’d have loved to have played for a Wenger team,” Fowler wrote in his column for the Daily Mirror. “He tried to sign me a couple of times.

“I wasn’t told by Liverpool, I think they kept it quiet from me, but I heard through other channels and had it on good authority he wanted me.

“I think he would have had to come to Liverpool as manager for me to ever play for him, because I never wanted to leave there.

“But could I see myself playing for him? Absolutely, because of the type of football he played, and his philosophy.”
