Oh dear goodness. No sooner had we been told that Arsenal had agreed a fee with Monaco for Thomas Lemar, we are told that Arsenal have in fact pulled out of the deal.
According to the Guardian’s David Hytner, a deal was agreed but Arsenal were worried that there would not be time to complete. That means that Lemar stays and Alexis Sanchez does not get his move to City.
In fairness, Arsenal have only had one day to buy players rather than the whole p*ssing summer, so it isn’t their fault that they waited to late to do the deal. Anyone might think that they got cold feet when their bid was accepted.
‘It has come down to Arsenal being able to sign a new attacking player,’ says Hytner.
‘Quite simply, they look to have run out of time on that front. They wanted Monaco’s Thomas Lemar and the French club demanded that they pay 100m euros for him. Which Arsenal indicated they were willing to do. But there appears to be insufficient time for Arsenal to now agree a package with Lemar.’
So Arsenal are left with a player who doesn’t want to be there and had been led to believe that he would get his move, and without any new arrivals. Spectacular work.
Anyone else think that Lemar just said no?
