Manchester United are mulling over an offer from China for Wayne Rooney, according to a report.
The Manchester Evening News claim the Red Devils have received a bid from the Chinese Super League, which is currently on a huge recruitment drive.
Alex Teixeira, Ramires and Jackson Martinez are among the big names to have moved to China over recent weeks, with Ezequiel Lavezzi following them this week. The Argentina forward left PSG this week and will earn £23.5million over the next two years with Hebei China Fortune.
The salary on offer to Rooney would trump Lavezzi’s, with the England captain set to net over £500,000 per week should he and United accept an offer.
The M.E.N. reports that United are currently considering a bid for their skipper, who is sidelined with a knee injury.
Their story says:
‘M.E.N. Sport understands United would need to offset his potential departure with an eminent replacement their global partners would approve of to promote their products.’
Despite his form clearly waning, Rooney remains the most marketable player at Old Trafford after 12 years at the club.
