Rio ‘dreaming’ of Ronaldo’s ‘fairy tale’ United return

Rio Ferdinand admits he is “dreaming” when considering the possibility of Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Manchester United.

Reports emerged earlier this week that Ronaldo was seeking to leave Real Madrid after eight years in the Spanish capital.

United were named as early frontrunners for the Portuguese’s signature, although they are considered to be more ‘sceptical’ over a deal than PSG.

We compiled five reasons why United should and five reasons why they should not pursue Ronaldo, but Ferdinand is too busy “dreaming” to do anything else.

“If Cristiano Ronaldo becomes available then the best clubs in the world will be queuing up to sign him,” he said.

“But I still feel Real Madrid hold all the cards, it will be down to them.

“Obviously as a Man United fan I’d love to see him go to Man United.

“It’s fairy tale stuff. This is fans dreaming, fans were brought up being allowed to dream.

“He’s the best player on the planet at the moment, he’s probably going to win the Ballon d’Or again, he won the league and the Champions League – who wouldn’t want that?”
