Wayne Rooney is ‘understood to feel under immense pressure’ at Manchester United after his awful performance against Watford at the weekend.
Rooney – named as the worst player of the week in our awards – has come in for some very fierce criticism on social media, with ‘highlights’ videos of his mistakes being widely shared.
Fans are widely calling for him to be dropped, though Gary Neville was quick to point out that United did not fare well in the one game he did not start this season.
He didn't start v Feyenoord … Didn't think that was great. https://t.co/KvsObtKSdq

Rooney is expected to start against Northampton in the League Cup on Wednesday night, with The Sun claiming that he will start as a striker before being axed for Saturday lunchtime’s clash with Leicester City.
‘The captain, who is being battered over his form, was cast in the classic No 9 role during team shape at Carrington yesterday,’ reads the report.
