Wayne Rooney has hailed the impact that Jose Mourinho has had on Manchester United.

Mourinho was appointed United boss in May, replacing Louis van Gaal as manager on a three-year deal.

The Portuguese started life at Old Trafford in impressive fashion, winning the Community Shield and opening the Premier League campaign with three straight victories.

But three successive defeats followed, including a reverse in the Manchester derby.

Rooney believes that United are capable of bouncing back under Mourinho’s tutelage.

“I think he’s been brilliant since he’s come in,” he told MUTV. “Training has changed a lot. The training has been really good and it’s interesting to see how he prepares for games with tactics, how we approach games, and it’s been really good.

“I’m sure obviously we will come back and definitely be challenging this season.”
