Henrikh Mkhitaryan has finally agreed to join Arsenal as part of a swap deal that involves Alexis Sanchez heading to Manchester United.
Sanchez and United settled on terms earlier in the week, but were forced to wait for Mkhitaryan to agree to join Arsenal.
The Armenian is thought to have demanded a ‘Sanchez-level salary’ at the Emirates Stadium, which will make him the club’s highest-paid player.
Mkhitaryan reportedly had initial reservations about moving to north London, but numerous outlets confirmed on Saturday that the deal was to go ahead.
David Ornstein of BBC Sport was the first to break the news, for he is the Ornacle and we are all just living in his world. He reports that the move will indeed be a straight swap, with no money involved.
He also says that both players will have their medicals on Sunday, and that all details of Mkhitaryan’s Arsenal contract are undisclosed.
Simon Stone (BBC), James Ducker (Daily Telegraph) and pretty much every other outlet is also reporting that Sanchez and Mkhitaryan will undergo medicals on Sunday.
But David McDonnell of the Daily Mirror throws the smallest of spanners in the works. He reports that confirmation of the swap deal may not be until Monday.
