Shearer stops short of calling Newcastle ‘sh*te’

Alan Shearer stopped marginally short of calling Newcastle ‘sh*te’, but the club legend was heavily critical of their performance against Leicester.

The Magpies fell to a 3-0 defeat against the in-form Foxes, but looked remarkably lacklustre at St James’ Park and are now fourth from bottom, just one point clear of the relegation zone.

Speaking to Match of the Day, Shearer didn’t hold back in his criticism of his former side, but managed to just about avoid calling them ‘sh*te’.

“There was one five letter word that was trending in Newcastle about the performance,” Shearer said. “I can’t use it here for obvious reasons.

“Words that I can use are woeful, embarrassing, inept; there was just a lack of effort, passion and commitment.

“You can put in a poor performance but you can’t accept a lack of effort like that from Newcastle.

“I watched them come out in the second half and they were just walking around.

“There was just no commitment and it’s not acceptable.”
