Tim Sherwood says he ‘loves and hates’ Aston Villa star Jack Grealish, with the Villa boss hoping “the penny has dropped” for the midfielder.
Grealish has been the subject of intense press coverage in the past, with faux-uproar over the 19-year-old’s drinking habits and ‘hippy crack’ consumption having been generated throughout last season.
The midfielder has not featured for Aston Villa so far this season, and Sherwood admits he hopes the Republic of Ireland youth international has put his ‘troubles’ behind him heading into his imminent return.
Sherwood told reporters: “I love him and I hate him at the same time!
“Young kids make mistakes,” the Villa boss continued. “They come through the other side.
“He is a one-off. He’s made a couple of mistakes but hopefully he is over them.
“The fans might love him but they don’t love him as much as me.
“He didn’t annoy me, he annoyed himself,” added apparent part-time schoolteacher Sherwood. “Self-motivation is the only motivation and I hope the penny has dropped.
“I back him 100 per cent because he is such a talented boy. He is a superb talent and I want to nurture him to fulfil his potential.”
