Sky Sports pundit Tim Sherwood believes that one Manchester United player coveted by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is outcast Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Armenian has not even been in Jose Mourinho’s last seven match-day squads but Sherwood believes that he would be perfect for City.
“I think one player who Pep would take out of Manchester United would be Mkhitaryan,” he said on Sky Sports.
“Without doubt (he’s a Guardiola player), gets the ball, half turn, in the little pockets, drives at people, takes it out to people.”
When fellow pundit Ian Wright suggested that he already had a similar player in Ilkay Gundogan, Sherwood said:
“He’s a little sharper than Gundogan. I think Gundogan’s a little bit more responsible, sits in there ticks it over.
“But I think he’s more of a maverick type, Mkhitaryan.
“When he was at Dortmund he was scary, that’s why every team in the land wanted to have him. Now at the moment he’s not getting a game, he’s not even getting in the squad.”
Sherwood gushed about the Manchester City manager, saying: “I don’t think Guardiola gets the credit for it. There are an awful lot of managers probably all the managers in the top six have spent a lot of money. Not as much as Pep but a lot…Pep is the best manager ever, best I have ever seen.”
