Sherwood thinks Man City will buy Carrick in January

Tim Sherwood believes that Manchester City will buy Michael Carrick in January.

It must be odd to be in Tim Sherwood’s world, where you just say things as they come into your head without actually considering whether they are realistic or logical.

Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s game with Bournemouth, Sherwood claimed that if Manchester United don’t pick Carrick, he will leave for City in January. As if that was the most natural thing in the world.

“Michael Carrick is the first name on a Premier League team sheet in my opinion,” Sherwood said while appearing as a pundit on BT Sport

“Man City are crying out for a Michael Carrick.

“They play with Fernando or Fernandinho in there. They are good at what they do but they can’t do what he can do.

“They can’t link the play like Michael Carrick.

“When Pep Guardiola was at Barcelona, he had Sergio Busquets doing that. He had Xabi Alonso doing that at Bayern Munich.

“Michael Carrick is a replica of them players and if Man United don’t want him, Man City will buy him in January.”

He’s forgotten about the existence of Ilkay Gundogan, hasn’t he?

Also, we haven’t forgotten what Sherwood said about Ashley Westwood and Carrick when he was Aston Villa manager:

“I will be very surprised if Ashley doesn’t play for England this season. He’s as good as that.

“He’s probably the single-most consistent player I have had at the club since I arrived.

“He’s very much in the Michael Carrick-mould.

“Michael is not getting any younger. I am not sure they have found a replacement for him yet.

“I think Ashley has got every chance. If he keeps on with his consistency – and the level of his performances – I am sure it won’t be too far around the corner.

“That would be great news for all of us. And he’s earned the right.”

That went well.
