Last summer we were treated to a mini-saga over a potential move for Neymar from Barcelona, but that trick will not be repeated this summer: He’s signing a new deal.
The Daily Mirror and Goal both report that Neymar’s extension will be a six-year contract that will eliminate all reports of his Barcelona future being in doubt.
Neymar was pushed into the shadows this season at the Nou Camp. While Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi scored 40 and 26 goals respectively and contributed 16 league assists, Neymar scored 24 times and provided 12 assists. It’s hardly a disaster.
A late-season dip in form brought rumours of a move to Paris St Germain this summer for Neymar. Last year it was Manchester United who were reportedly pushing to sign him.
However, Neymar is unsurprisingly going to sign a new deal at Barcelona, which is seen out will take him to the age of 30.
Reports also suggest that Neymar’s minimum fee release clause will increase from €190million to €220million.
