Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs playmaker Jabu Mahlangu has hit out at modern footballers and the current defensive-minded tactics that have evolved recently.

Mahlangu is considered as one of the most talented footballers South African football has produced.

He was nicknamed 'Shuffle' during his time at Chiefs due to his ability to mesmerize defenders and supporters with his skills.

The 35-year old believes coaches in the Premiership should allow players more freedom to attack and express themselves, adding that the cautious approach has made football boring for fans.

"If players took no risks, every game would end goalless as no player would go past any player," Mahlangu told Soccer Laduma.

"There should not be any fear to make mistakes because mistakes happen in football."

"The team that takes the most risks usually wins the game and the player that takes the most risks usually gets the Man of the Match award.

"You cant play this game without risks. Otherwise football would be boring."
