Martin Skrtel has apologised after Joleon Lescotting and appearing to call Jurgen Klopp a ‘d**khead’.

Skrtel, who is closing in on a £5million move to Fenerbahce this summer, was forced to apologise on social media after the furore on Wednesday evening.

A friend of the Slovakian international’s posted a picture of himself and the defender on Instagram, along with a caption which roughly translates to ‘Klopp is a d**khead’.

A message from Skrtel’s account then read, in reply, ‘last hashtag is top’, referring to the insult aimed at the Liverpool manager.

The friend then responded with ‘Hope Jurgen won’t see it’, before Skrtel’s account posted a further message, which read: ‘Hope he does.’

Shortly after, Skrtel took to the same Instagram account, apologising for the controversy, but denying that he had posted the messages.

‘I am truly sorry for the situation and what was written under my name,’ said the 31-year-old.

‘These days, when I am very busy, I have asked my close friend to help me manage my social media profiles. He got taken away and he did not realise how serious the comments may appear.

‘I would like to stress that the opinion he expressed is not my opinion.’
