Wesley Sneijder turned down the chance to join Liverpool – because he wanted to win trophies.
Sneijder is currently playing in Qatar for Al-Gharafa, but enjoyed a fine career in Europe.
He has won league titles in the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Turkey, as well as the Champions League with Inter Milan in 2010.
Upon leaving the Italians three years later he had numerous options, including a move to the Premier League with Liverpool.
But he says he turned down the opportunity to join the Reds as he wanted to win trophies, so joined Galatasaray instead.
“Many clubs wanted to know when I was leaving Inter, and Liverpool was one of those clubs, so people were surprised I chose Galatasaray,” he said.
“Why Galatasaray and not Liverpool? But I am a winner, I play for prizes, so I went to Galatasaray because I thought that I would win more at Galatasaray and be champion than at Liverpool, and I think afterwards that I made the right choice.
“I have had nice years in Turkey.”
