Harry Winks is being considered for a shock international call-up by Spain, according to reports. Or he isn’t.
Tottenham midfielder Winks has impressed so far this season, and has been touted for a potential place in Gareth Southgate’s next England squad, with the national team’s next game coming in a friendly against Germany on March 22.
Winks’ hopes of making that squad have been examined, with the 21-year-old having played 18 games at youth level for the international side.
However, the Daily Mirror report that Spain are investigating his eligibility ahead of a potential shock call-up.
Winks has Spanish grandparents (he doesn’t) and, considering he is yet to play a competitive game for England, the Spanish FA are hoping to convince him to switch allegiances (they aren’t).
There seems to be one problem, mind you…
On Harry Winks. His great grandparents (not his grandparents) are Spanish which doesn't qualify him 2 play for Spain. The Spanish FA know it
