Spanish media tout Valencia, Johnson for Barca move

Daniel Storey

Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo have named Glen Johnson and Antonio Valencia in a list of right-back options for Barcelona.

Ready? Stopped laughing? Decided against going to Spain to give them a piece of your mind? Good, we’ll carry on.

The newspaper produced the list in response to reports that Luis Enrique is after a cheap back-up option at right-back, with Aleix Vidal’s future at the Nou Camp already in doubt.

Their list is absolutely glorious, starting seriously but then getting very silly indeed:

Darijo Srna
Stephan Lichtsteiner
Rafinha
Branislav Ivanovic
Glen Johnson
Antonio Valencia
Bacary Sagna
Pablo Zabaleta

Somebody hasn’t been watching the Premier League a lot recently.

It’s Johnson that Mundo Deportivo dedicate the most space to, writing:

“Johnson fits the same profile. He had a long career with Liverpool and now he’s at Stoke City, where his contract expires in 2017. Other veterans at this level have more drawbacks because they have played in the Champions League this season.”

Sheesh. When 32-year-old Johnson ticks your boxes, it’s time to get some new boxes.
