Tottenham have opened talks with Mauricio Pochettino over a new contract, according to reports.

The Argentinian boss has three-and-a-half years left on his White Hart Lane, but the club are keen to reward the 44-year-old after his efforts in positioning Spurs for a tilt at the Premier League title.

The Daily Mirror reports Daniel Levy is keen to tie his man down to an improved new contract in a bid to ward off interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Pochettino’s vibrant, attacking style of play has attracted admiring glances from the United and Chelsea boardrooms and Tottenham are keen to make sure his long-term future remains in north London.

The Sunday Times claimed Chelsea had held talks with representatives of Pochettino and were believed to be encouraged by the conversations.

The Mirror meanwhile claims that Tottenham ‘aren’t being panicked by the interest in their manager’ and they are confident he wants to stay.

“I’m very happy here. We’ve created a very good group, with a strong basis for success in the future and I’m very happy.

“My focus is here, to try for success at Tottenham and to work hard,” Pochettino said in January.”

Pochettino is in no rush to put pen to paper as his priority lies with the Premier League and the club’s Europa League campaign.

But Spurs want to get the situation wrapped up once the season has finished.
