Daniel Sturridge could return to the Liverpool first team within a fortnight after returning to full training for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The England frontman has yet to feature under new boss Klopp after he injured his knee in a training ground collision with Jordon Ibe on the eve of the German’s first game at Tottenham on October 17.

Sturridge, 26, has been sidelined ever since, but he joined in full training with the non-international contingent at Melwood on Tuesday and is on the comeback trail.

It is unlikely that Klopp will deem Sturridge fit enough to make the squad against Manchester City on Saturday, with the German coach believed to want Sturridge to complete a 10-day training programme before he considers him for first-team duty.

For the last 15 months Sturridge’s career has stalled with a series of injuries to his calf, groin, hip and latterly his knee limiting his appearances.

In fact the former Chelsea man, who made 19 appearances last term, has played only three games this season and completed the 90 minutes only once – the 1-1 draw with Everton in early October.

The home game with Swansea on October 29 might well be the one pencilled in for Sturridge’s return.
